In Japan, itasha literally means "painful" or "cringeworthy" + "car". It is a car decorated with images of characters from anime, manga, or video games. The decorations usually involve paint schemes and stickers. The cars are seen prominently in places such as Tokyo, Osaka, or Nagoya, or Itasha-based events, such as Odaiba Itasha Tengoku. Itasha is steadily growing in popularity in the U.S. Here at Garden State Anime Fest we have embraced the culture and LOVE IT!
